All universities in Vietnam still struggle to provide a high level degree of English education and English academic writing nowadays. Two academic English and scientific writing skills courses for young staff and students at four universities in Vietnam are given by KU Leuven experts. One intensive course (14 consecutive days) for staff and one intensive course (14 consecutive days) for students will be carried out at each VPU. The teaching schedule at each VPU depends on the availability of the experts from EPU as well as on that of the local staff and students.
- Task 1: Selection of participants
At least 15 young staff will be selected from chemistry and physics departments of each VPU to join the English session for staff. The selection is based on the English proficiency of the candidates, their needs for teaching chemistry and physics in English and their willingness to do research and to join other activities related to the project.
At least 25 students will be selected from the chemistry and physics departments of each VPU to join the English session for students. The selection is based on English level and skill of students, their learning results and their willingness to take part in activities related to projects.
Lists of participants will be updated on project website at least 2 weeks in advance of the course delivery.
- Task 2: Courses organization and delivery
One English session of 14 consecutive days for staff, and one English session of 14 consecutive days for students will be organized at each VPU during the three years of the project. Academic English experts from KU Leuven will come and deliver these courses.
Each VPU will be in charge of organizing their own sessions.
- Task 3: Courses evaluation
The improvement in academic English and scientific writing skills of young staff is the key to the success and sustainability of the project. Therefore, an evaluation for each course and each participant will be conducted by the European experts upon the completion of every course.
- Task 4: Collecting feedbacks from staff and students
The English experts from KU Leuven will be responsible for the questionnaires to get feedback from the local staff and students.
